AI Product Photography Prompts: 12 Templates for Shops and Ads

A product photo has one job: make someone want the thing. For small shops, a proper studio shoot for every item is rarely realistic, which is why AI product photography has become so useful for mockups, lifestyle scenes, ads and social posts.

But product prompts fail in their own way. The model invents a slightly different product, the surface looks fake, the light is flat. These twelve templates fix that by writing product shots the way a commercial photographer plans them.

First: keep the product real

If you're selling an actual product, generate around it, not instead of it. Use your tool's image reference or editing feature with a real photo of the item, and let the prompt build the scene, surface and light. A fully generated product will drift: wrong label, wrong cap, wrong proportions. That's fine for concept work, never fine for a listing.

Describe the product plainly and precisely anyway: a 100ml amber glass dropper bottle with a matte black cap. Specifics reduce drift.

The four ingredients of a product prompt

  • Surface. What it sits on: marble, raw linen, wet slate, pale oak, seamless paper.
  • Light. Soft and diffused for beauty and skincare. Hard and directional for drinks, tech and anything that should feel bold.
  • Lens. 100mm macro for detail, 50mm for tabletop, 35mm for lifestyle scenes with context.
  • Space. Where the empty area is, if you need room for text or an ad layout.

Studio templates

1. Seamless white

[product] centred on a seamless white backdrop, soft even light from a large softbox, subtle shadow beneath, 50mm lens, clean e-commerce product photograph.

2. Coloured seamless

[product] on a seamless [sage green] paper backdrop in a matching tone, soft light from the left, gentle shadow, minimal.

3. Hard-light hero

[product] on dark stone, single hard spotlight from above right, crisp sharp shadow, deep black background, dramatic commercial photograph.

The hard-light hero template on the amber dropper bottle from earlier. One hard spotlight, a crisp shadow and a dark exposure make a plain bottle feel bold. Made with GPT Image from a prompt built with Frame Juice Image settings: Commercial, Eye Level, 50mm, f/8, Fresnel Spot, Low-Key.

The prompt behind this image:

sharp subject: a 100ml amber glass dropper bottle with a matte black cap and a plain unlabelled glass body, standing on dark stone and casting a crisp sharp shadow, blurred background: a deep black studio background, commercial advertising photography, product shot, advertising-grade quality, eye level camera angle, neutral natural perspective, 50mm standard prime lens, mirrors human eye perspective, neutral compression, timeless rendering, f/8 aperture, everything sharp front to back, ideal for product and landscape, fresnel spotlight, focused Hollywood-style beam, controlled hard pool of light, low-key exposure, predominantly dark tones, dramatic pools of light, deep shadows, professional photography, highly detailed, photorealistic.

4. Floating

[product] floating in mid-air against a pastel gradient, soft shadow on the ground below, clean studio light.

Lifestyle templates

5. Bathroom shelf

The same bottle in the bathroom shelf template. Soft window light, a 35mm view with some room around it and a light grade turn it from a hero shot into an everyday scene. Made with GPT Image from a prompt built with Frame Juice Image settings: Commercial, Eye Level, 35mm, f/2.8, Window Light, Pastel Airy, Kodak Portra 400.

The prompt behind this image:

[product] on a worn oak kitchen counter, blurred kitchen behind, warm late-afternoon light, 50mm at f/2.

Common mistakes

  • Too many props. The product gets lost. Two or three supporting items at most.
  • Mismatched light. Soft beauty light on a whisky bottle looks weak. Hard light on a baby lotion looks harsh. Match the light to the brand.
  • Floating shadows. If the product doesn't cast a believable shadow, it looks pasted in. Always mention the shadow.
  • Text on the product. Models still garble small labels. Plan to add real branding afterwards, or use a reference image.

From photo to video

Once you have a strong product image, it can become the start frame of a short product video: an orbit, a slow push-in, a light sweep across the label. The image already sets the look, so the video prompt only has to describe the motion. Our image to video guide shows how to write it, and the camera moves vocabulary has the words for the move.
